MISSION
To enrich the lives of our faculty, students, staff, and community through engaged learning, active citizenship, meaningful community service, scholarship, and mutually-beneficial partnerships.

PROGRAM OFFERINGS
AMERICA READS/COUNTS PROGRAM

Held at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, this program places college student tutors in community centers,
local elementary and middle schools, and preschools to provide classroom support and individual attention to struggling
and at-risk students. Through continued training, tutor supervision, evaluation, and teacher collaboration, our America
Reads/Counts program strives to:

  • Increase the level of reading and mathematics understanding of local students from pre-K through 8th grade

  • Increase the reading levels of local children from pre-K to 5th grade

  • Increase university students’ involvement in the community

  • Strengthen the partnership between the university and the local community

YOUTH CIVIC LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

In conjunction with 911 and MLK Days of Service, we offer local high school students the opportunity to participate in our Youth Civic Leadership Institute, A free program to develop leadership skills while serving the community.

 

SOUTHCOAST SERVES

SouthCoast Serves is a University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Leduc Center for Civic Engagement connector project,
which fosters service and volunteerism to meet the needs of our community by leveraging resources, expertise and
capacity to maximize impact. We are a coalition of over 40 community-based organizations that work collaboratively to
increase the amount and impact of service and volunteerism in the SouthCoast region of Massachusetts. Together this
group develops service projects and resources to improve the health and welfare of the community. All are welcomed.
